Great advice for anyone considering a move abroad. I’m on my second moving abroad challenge and this time it requires learning a language. It’s a tough one, but I’m determined.

The language barrier definitely requires extra motivation! What language are you learning?

I went from Pakistan to England, to study. Then more or less stayed abroad most of my life, except for twelve years at the end of my working life.

While abroad I lived in the UK, Venezuela, USA

and UAE. I also got the opportunity to visit scores of countries for business and pleasure. It has been an adventurous and happy life. Yet looking back sometimes I wonder how it would have been if I had stayed in Karachi.

Financially, I would definitely be better off. When staying in one place one gets opportunities to buy property which is a big hedge against inflation.

I would have a much bigger circle of close friends and would have stayed close to my relatives.

It is true, a rolling stone gathers no moss.

It is true! There are definitely pros and cons to nearly every decision in life. I feel you on the bigger circle of close friends & more time with family - as I write this my entire family is spending a week together at the beach, a trip that's too costly and difficult for me to make. It's those little moments that tend to be the toughest!
