Aug Recap & What's to Come
Just like that summer is officially behind us but for me, that actually means the start of travel season.
August was spent nearly completely in Trieste (with the exception of this past weekend) and honestly I’m not sure we’ve spent an entire month at home since moving here 2 years ago.
I tend to get antsy. I love seeing new places. And as someone who has made their entire life revolve around that previous statement, you can’t be surprised.
This month felt different though.
I honestly think we were really, really tired and more than anything just need the rest. Plus, after getting quite the shock on what I owed in Italian taxes and what it’ll cost this winter to visit both of our families for the holidays, I think our bank accounts needed the break too.
That said, what I initially saw as punishment quickly turned into joy. Recently, we’ve been using home as a place to hole up and recharge between trips, not as somewhere seriously cool on it’s own right.
This month helped me fall in love with Trieste again. We visited new restaurants, went hiking in the hills, and spent evenings at some new and favorite osmize (a cute little farm-to-table tradition that exists here on the border with Slovenia).

Italy is pretty strange in August anyway, with half of the country taking off work and temperatures soaring higher than any other month sees. So, staying at home felt smart. It certainly doesn’t hurt Trieste is on the sea.
Now that we’ve rested though, the new few weeks will be wild ones, starting with this past weekend in Santarcangelo di Romagna for the Franz Ferdinand concert.
If you’re looking for a very cute town near Rimini (and way better than Rimini IMO), I highly recommend this one. In July, we were also in this area and stayed in Cesena, another cute town near Rimini for a different concert. Although I enjoyed Cesena, if push comes to shove, I’d recommend Santarcangelo.
What’s to Come in September
September will be busy with a wedding in Naples, friends and family coming to visit, and a weeklong getaway to explore a mountain town we’re considering moving to.
That said, I have a lot of super cool articles sitting in my inbox from women itching to share their story. We’ll cover Greece to Nicaragua and a few places in between. I’ll do my best to keep up my weekly posts both here and on the website but I’ll be honest, I can’t 100% commit.
That said, I think this month it would be fun to talk specifically about moving to Italy and the pros and cons that have come along with this decision. As someone who has always thrived in the unknown, I’m sometimes disappointed in myself that I’ve fallen so in love with the obvious country of Italy.
August’s Articles on the Site
Before I let ya go, here’s a round up of everything that was published on the website in August in case you missed ‘em:
7 Most Common Visa Types to Move Abroad (this is an extended version from what I posted on Substack earlier this month)
I realize this was a very “Europe-centric” month and I’m trying to remedy this in upcoming months by incorporating other continents. That said, if you or someone you know you lives abroad *not in Europe* and wants to write for the site, please reach out!
Until next week ❤️

I love the idea of 'travel season'! And, having also spent most of the summer in one place with lots of fun trips coming up over winter, I think we may be in sync with our cycle of travel/staying put!
