June Recap & Substack Tips
A little monthly recap of the new articles published to the site, my life in Italy, and some helpful tips to get the most out of our Substack.
Goodbye June and hello to my birthday month, July. I’ll be turning 35 this year and while getting older doesn’t necessarily worry me, it does feel like a big number to hit.
I feel confident with where I am in this little life, the things I’ve accomplished, and the adventures yet to come. Getting older is just a reminder to keep living and doing the things that make me happy. It does help that my husband is 3 years older so I’ll always be comparatively young 😉
We spent all of June in Italy, enjoying a big trip to Modena and a few small ones within the region we live in. I also faced enough bureaucracy and headaches that I was prompted to vent a little bit in this post last week.
A little update for you guys, after almost pulling my hair out, I was able to open a bank account and pay my Italian taxes 2 whole days before the final deadline. I also officially own a car in Italy, although my husband is the one with the Italian driver’s license. Getting mine is a hurdle for another day (or year).
It feels good to get all of that taken care of although we’ve quickly realized that once you overcome one hurdle, another is waiting up ahead. This month we’re focused on renewing our health ID card, a task that isn’t as upfront as it sounds. TBC!
Anways, on the website we published a lot of super cool articles. Read up on:
Some Substack Tips
If you came here from the website, you might not be familiar with Substack (honestly I’m still figuring it out, too). I wanted to share some tips that should help you get the most out of being a subscriber here:
Our premium model gives you full archive access. All articles are free for everyone the moment they launch but will automatically go behind the paywall after 3 weeks. So, if a piece interests you, don’t bookmark it for too long before giving it a read. But, if you want access to the entire archive, you can upgrade your account for just $5 a month.
I often write little notes throughout the week. On Substack I can make posts (like this one) that get sent via email or notes. Notes can be long, short, pictures, videos, whatever. I’ve also used the tool to share other writers’ work I think you’ll like. These don’t get sent via email so you might miss them unless you have the Substack app and allow notifications from us.
Comments, likes, and restacks help me a lot. I’m not interested in engagement for the sake of engagement (that’s a big reason I left IG) but when you like, comment, or share a post or note, it helps me to know you enjoyed (or didn’t enjoy) that type of content. It’s a subtle cue for me to know if I should continue sharing things like that or try something new. You can also always continue to simply reply to emails like many of you do! I really enjoy hearing from you guys no matter how.
There is a community chat you all can use. Free subscribers can respond to our threads and paid subscribers can start new threads to open specific topics that the community and I can respond to. This is actually one of my favorite aspects of Substack that I plan to start using more.
That’s it for me this week! I hope you are all having a great start to July and aren’t sweating too much wherever you may be.
