September Recap & What's Next
September was a whirlwind that took us all over Italy, from a wedding in the south to house hunting in the north.
September was a long one but admittedly, a great one. I’ll be honest though, I’m writing this on the train from Venice to Rome and while I’m excited to spend time with the family that’s arriving there tomorrow, I’m exhausted.
This past month was non-stop.
We went to our first Italian wedding in a small village, Casertavecchia, outside of Naples; enjoyed a long weekend on Ischia with Raf’s best friend from home; spent a week in the quiet mountain town of Belluno, house hunting and deciding if this should be our next home; and just wrapped up a few days in Venice with my mom and aunt.

I really don’t know how we squeezed it all in and still aren’t quite done.
Raf and I have always been avid travelers and thoroughly enjoyed our lifestyle as nomads but we shine slow traveling. We like to pick a single city and spend 1-3 months just there.
Recently we’ve felt the shift where we’ve gotten away from our roots and have given into busy weekend escapades while balancing full-time jobs. I know for a lot of people this works but I really want to get back to what we love.
It’s been a big part of our current plan of building a homebase here in Italy. We’re hoping to find a place we can spend a majority of the year but still allows us to spend the month somewhere a few times a year. Time will tell if money will let us have our house and leave it too, but we’re hopeful.
A big part of moving abroad or taking a big leap in your life is knowing that you can always change course as you please. So many people assume each decision you’ll make is permanent but I couldn’t disagree more.
You might think being a digital nomad sounds fun but in reality, you may find it draining. You also might love it for just a short time. You might have always dreamed of moving to coast of, say, Sri Lanka, but realize afterwards it’s not quite what you hoped.
All of this is OK.
It’s OK to readjust. It’s OK to change your opinion. It’s OK to want to try something else. It’s OK to realize you made a mistake. And it’s even more OK for you to grow and have your priorities change throughout your life. Just give yourself the space to readjust from time to time.
You’ve probably heard the saying, “the more you see, the less you know.” And I really believe that for a number of reasons. But in this context, I think it’s hard to know exactly what you’re looking for until you have it and see how it fits.
So roll with it.
And see where where it takes you.
New Articles on the Site
Thanks to all of our fab writers, I was still able to get a few new articles up on the site:
I have a pretty long queue of European destinations coming up but I’d love to mix in a variety of other continents as well. If you’d like to write for the site and live/work outside of Europe, please reach out!
What’s Coming in October
This month, I’ll dig into the friends and family you leave behind and finding your people abroad. Since I just got to see my mom and aunt and am now on the way to squeeze a few more family members, it’s a topic that’s really on my mind.
I’ll be back next week with the first edition of that little series. If you have any specific questions on that topic you’d like me to cover, feel free to drop a comment here or shoot me a message.
xx,
Kat
